25 to 26 October 2008
LINK HERE FOR PROGRAMME

The announcement of the theme “Weddings in Greyton” for the Rose Exhibition during the annual Greyton Rose Fair has been received with great enthusiasm and the activities planned around this theme have ignited a new interest in the Rose Festival.
This year will be the 17th time that the Rose Fair is organised by the Greyton Seniors Club. An added bonus of the 2008 festival is that it will be promoting Greyton as a wedding (and honeymoon!) destination.
One of the highlights this year will be the exhibition of specimen roses and floral arrangements on Saturday and Sunday in the Greyton Anglican Hall. The theme of the floral arrangements “Weddings in Greyton” and there will be a "wall of fame" - a display of wedding photographs of present and past Greytonians.
The Rose Fair Market on Saturday will be, as in the past, a huge draw card, with more than 100 stalls participating this year. To mention but a few, there will be traditional Zulu ethnic art, homemade chilli sauces, potjiekos, the delicious Concordia cheeses and Duncan’s roses (“1001 Roses” will be showcased!).

Miss Rose, her entourage and the Genadendal Brass Band will again parade down Main Road as part of the opening procession on Saturday morning.
A number of gardens will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, giving visitors to Greyton a rare opportunity to view some of the most beautiful rose gardens in the Overberg.
In keeping with the theme of “Weddings in Greyton” the Oak & Vigne invites everyone to attend a Wedding Party on Friday evening
(24th). A number of local brides will participate in a fashion show, and the O & V courtyard will be transformed into a “wedding reception” with sparkling wine, food and live music by the popular trio "Acoustica".
Also on Friday, the Greyton Lodge presents a fun concert in their beautiful garden on Friday late afternoon. The very popular local band "The Country Conquerors Reggae Band" will be performing.
Saturday morning will also see 2 trail run events. Runners can either enter for an easy challenge (4.5 – 5kms), suitable for beginner trailers and those looking to break a mild sweat, or a medium challenge (10 – 12kms), with climbs to prove your mountain goat abilities (suggested for the slightly fitter runner). For more information on this event visit www.targetevents.co.za
The Greyton Red Cross Society will be presenting "Cinema Serenade", a Cabaret Evening starring Louise Howlett and Albert Combrink on the Saturday night of the Rose Fair. Tickets are R80 each, and available from Greyton Information Bureau 028 254 9564.

UNITED PEOPLE - a photographic exhibition by Tertius Meintjes. Opening at the Greyton Lodge at 16:00, 24 October.
This project began a couple of years ago when Tertius was in
Germany to shoot a commercial. Whilst there, he started taking pictures of the people on the streets of Berlin. These photographs came to the attention of The Goethe Institute who responded by commissioning Tertius to do a photographic project called UNITED PEOPLE. He went back to Berlin, and thus started a journey through Germany and most parts of Europe during 2003/2004 and part of 2005. Tertius travelled to other parts of the world during this period but regularly returned to Germany to continue his work on the project.
This photographic project is an exploration and the celebration of the breaking down of boundaries and the positive dynamic this creates. UNITED PEOPLE is a humble attempt at reflecting the beauty in diversity and the perfect potential in all of us. Hopefully making a small contribution to encourage understanding and tolerance. This project attempts to reflect the perfect beauty in all, compassion through honouring each other in the knowledge that our destiny is one and he same.

PHOTOGRAPHER
Because time is out there, eaten by light.
Norma Cole, “Spinoza in her Youth”
After three years in a leading role in “Isidingo” (The number one daily drama in South Africa) and becoming a popular household name, Tertius decided it was time for a major change. Seeking a new challenge he returned to his first passion.
A man’s work is little more than a journey through his life, in order to rediscover (through the detours of art), those two or three great but simple images that first found access to his heart. -Albert Camus
Photography and the nature of light was something that fascinated him from an early age. Growing up on a farm in a remote part of South Africa Tertius got his hands on a faded Basic Photography manual and a primitive box camera while rummaging through a pile of rubbish that his father was about to burn. He build his first primitive darkroom at the age of twelve and continued to explore the intriguing relationship between time and light, seeking to capture that single ‘magical moment’ as reflected by the human condition, ever since.

South African Peter Mitchell lived in Scotland for a few years where he initially performed as a street busker. After being spotted on the streets he was invited to perform at various pubs in Scotland. Mitchell was impressed with and inspired by these pub scenes, as everyone would gather for exuberant partying and celebrations, especially over weekends.
Back home Peter is in constant demand for corporate gigs and has performed at events for major brands including SASOL at Tri-Nation matches across South Africa. He was also invited by Springbok Coach Jake White to perform during an event for him and his team in Bloemfontein in 2004.

Captivating from the first track, this album draws the listener in. It lets you dance, cry, and yearn for people and places you've known or want to know. Full of surprises, it features some of the countries top musicians, but remains focused to Mitchell's unique vocal character. Sincere and fresh, “Hamlet by Night” is long overdue.
