Lower Gobos Walk
This is a figure-of-eight walk, with the starting point in the middle, at the junction of lower Regent Street and Vlei Street. Walk through an opening in the fence and follow a short path to a picnic place on the Gobos River bank. There is a seat here for a moment's reflection, and a toilet nearby. A path to the left follows the river bank through trees and shrub for about 1 kilometre, ending to the left on the bank of a stream crossing Vlei Street, or to the right alongside the Cape Nature Conservation camp. In either case. return along Vlei Street to your starting point.
Back at the picnic area, turn right and follow the path along the river bank through further trees and shrubs to the Riviersonderend road. Turn left over the road bridge and look immediately for a kissing gate leading onto a jeep track on the east side of the Gobos River. Proceed along the jeep track to a wooden bridge over the river, and cross it to return to the starting point.
Apart from some of Vlei Street, most of this walk is in shade, which is most welcome on a hot day. Further cooling can be achieved by dabbling in the unpolluted stream.
