Leiwater Walk
The walk starts and ends at the lower end of Nerina Street, at the Cape Nature Conservation camp. In front of the gate leading into the Commonage, turn left and follow the tracks along the fence. Where the path turns right you start walking on top of the water pipes feeding the leiwater channels in the village.
On your left, behind large shrubs, is the old leiwater channel which is now obsolete. Some of these high shrubs are wild almond trees, well known even in van Riebeeck's timeāhe planted a long hedge, still seen in Kirstenbosch, a defence against attacking Hottentots. Do not try the fruits, because they are poisonous.
Having passed some remains of the channel, you reach the Gobos River. When the river is low enough to cross by 'rock-hopping, turn right. If the water is to high for you, turn left and follow the Boesmansloof Trail back to the Nature Reserve.
Otherwise, follow the path then through fynbos until you reach another stream, coming out of the Wolfskloof. Along the water you will find a very tall 'Tolbos' (Leucadendron salicifilium).
A bit further you reach a wider track (the Boesmanskloof Trail), where you turn right back towards the village. Again you have cross the Gobos River without a bridge before you reach the Commonage gate at lower Nerina Street, the end of this short walk.
